2nd October 2015
Celebrations were the order of the day at St Columb Minor Academy on Friday 16th October. The new Members and Directors of The Atlantic Centre of Excellence Multi Academy Trust (ACE MAT) met together for the first time to discuss the strategic direction of the trust.
On the 1st September the trust was joined by four good to outstanding schools raising the total membership of the trust to six academies. ACE MAT is now made up of six partner schools: Charlestown ACE Academy, Robartes ACE Academy, St Columb Major ACE Academy, St Columb Minor ACE Academy, St Agnes ACE Academy and Gatehouse ACE Academy. Together the trust has over 2000 pupils and a wealth of expert, experienced and dedicated staff.
The first meeting of the trust was combined with the opening of the new staff room facility at St Columb Minor Academy. Cornwall College Principal and ACE Member, Amarjit Basi unveiled a plaque which officially named the staff hub as the ‘Rockpool’ following the nautical theme of the academy’s classes and buildings. Mr. Basi was joined by the School Council who explained to the directors their reasons for the selection of this name. All present agreed that the new staff facility was a great place for staff to meet and relax.
On this day, St Columb Minor Principal Jennie Walker, was also able to share with the directors the news that the South West Regional Schools Commissioner, Sir David Carter had recently approved ACE’s request to become an accredited DfE sponsor of schools in difficulty. The directors were delighted that the work of the trust was being recognised by the Regional Commissioner.
