Miss Marie Cameron will become Headteacher at St Columb Major ACE Academy from September 2017
After a two day interview process, the Directors of ACE and Governors of St Columb Major ACE Academy are delighted to announce the appointment of Miss Marie Cameron to the post of Headteacher.
Marie is currently Head of School at Grampound Road Village CE School and has a career spanning fifteen years with a long list of achievements under her belt, such as gaining ‘Good’ and ‘Outstanding’ inspections from Ofsted and SIAMS – receiving recognition for her ability to inspire staff and improve outcomes for pupils. St Columb Major ACE Academy is currently led by interim Headteacher Mrs Michelle Hall and prior to this Mr Antus Phillips who held the headship for 12 years.
Antus led the school from Ofsted ‘Good’ to ‘Outstanding’ in 2012 and has enthused and inspired children, staff, volunteers and parents to work tirelessly to deliver a full and innovative curriculum. Most notably, Antus obtained the International Schools Award, which involved organising exchange visits to India and China, setting up a successful forest school initiative, installing and educating children about renewable energy and setting up an annual school camp residential.
St Columb Major ACE Academy is recognised by Ofsted as an Outstanding school and for having a fantastic learning culture where everyone is valued and encouraged to be the best they can. In November 2016 the team at St Columb Major received praise and congratulations from Mrs Rebecca Clark who is the Regional Schools Commissioner for the South West at the Department for Education.
In her letter Rebecca Clark said “I was very pleased to see your school’s provisional Key Stage 2 results, which position St Columb Major Academy as one of our region’s highest performing schools. In a year when standards expected have been higher than ever, it is impressive to reflect upon the results that you have been able to achieve.”
“I never underestimate the sheer hard work which sits behind results like these. Please pass on my thanks and congratulations to your whole staff team”
Marie Cameron said “I am delighted to have been appointed as Headteacher at St Columb Major ACE Academy. This is an exhilarating opportunity for me and I believe that my vast wealth of experience in leading whole school improvement, outstanding teaching and classroom practice will help drive the school to further success.”
“Having met with the staff and children, I know that I have a great team, engaging and enthusiastic children and a welcoming community to work with. I can’t wait to help shape the future of learning at St Columb Major Academy, the community and the Academy Trust.”
Jennie Walker, Executive Principal of Atlantic Centre of Excellence Trust, said “Marie has the drive and ambition to continue delivering the outstanding education leading to exceptional pupil achievement. I am confident that her enthusiasm and new ideas will uphold and build on the school mission statement ‘Happy, Hard-working, Successful.”
